4-Day Grand Sahara Circuit
The ultimate 4-day private desert circuit from Marrakech: Ait Ben Haddou, Dades and Todra Gorges, Erg Chebbi camel trek, desert camp, and Ouarzazate.
Tour Overview
Morocco's most complete southern journey four days that trace the full sweep of the kingdom's extraordinary contrasts: snow-capped mountains, UNESCO kasbahs, cinematic stone gorges, lush palm oases, and finally the golden sea of the Erg Chebbi dunes stretching to the Algerian border. Beginning and ending in Marrakech, this private circuit visits the ksar of Ait Ben Haddou, the Skoura Palm Grove, the breathtaking Dades and Todra Gorges, and the film capital of Ouarzazate all framed by the ever-changing light of southern Morocco's desert sky.
A full night at a nomadic-style luxury desert camp, a camel ride at both sunset and sunrise, and a final evening in the vibrant boulevards of Ouarzazate round off an itinerary that truly encapsulates everything Morocco has to offer.
Itinerary
- After breakfast, your private vehicle heads south over the spectacular Tizi n'Tichka mountain pass ÔÇö the roof of North Africa's road network at 2,260 m ÔÇö with panoramic Atlas views at every bend. The first major stop is the honey-coloured ksar of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site so visually striking it has served as a backdrop for Gladiator, Game of Thrones, and countless other productions. A leisurely lunch in Ouarzazate is followed by an afternoon visit to the Skoura Palm Grove, whose thousand-year-old Amridil Kasbah once safeguarded silks and spices from the Silk Road. Arriving at Dades Gorges as dusk settles, check in to a comfortable canyon hotel for dinner and an overnight amid extraordinary geological scenery.
- Following breakfast, the road winds east through Tinghir and into the Todra Gorge ÔÇö a sheer-walled limestone canyon where the walls rise 300 metres and the river runs cold and clear through the narrow channel below. Continuing across the immense Tafilalet plain, the Erg Chebbi dune sea materialises on the horizon like a mirage: Morocco's most iconic Saharan landscape, stretching 22 km and rising to 150 m at its peak. A camel caravan takes you into the dunes at sunset for a private journey through the shifting sands to your nomadic-style desert camp. Dinner under the stars, optional Berber drums and storytelling around the campfire, and temperatures that drop to a perfectly cool desert night.
- Before dawn, mount your camel again for the sunrise ride ÔÇö the moment the Sahara shifts from black to indigo, rose, amber and finally blinding gold is one of the most transcendent experiences in all of travel. After a traditional Berber breakfast at camp, the return journey heads west through the remote Anti-Atlas desert terrain ÔÇö vast stone plains, nomadic camel herders, and thriving date-palm communities far from any tourist trail. Arriving in Ouarzazate by evening, the city's film studios, kasbah and bustling bazaar await your exploration before a comfortable hotel dinner and overnight.
- Departing early, the final drive takes you back over the breathtaking Tizi n'Tichka pass ÔÇö a fitting grand finale to four days of extraordinary scenery. Arriving in Marrakech with time to spare, your driver can drop you at the legendary Djemaa El Fna square where snake charmers, storytellers and food stalls bring the ancient medina roaring to life, or at the graceful Koutoubia Mosque for a final stroll before returning to your hotel.
